FOUND IN THE STUDIO:
With Wild Lines

Founded by Sophie Erin, With Wild Lines is an online shop and studio with delicately hand-drawn artworks.

During one of (what feels like many) lockdowns, we decided to start our ‘FOUND in the studio’ series at home with Sophie's other creative work as an artist and illustrator. Sophie studied Fine Art at Bath Spa University, graduating back in 2013, and has been exhibiting since with work shown in London, Bath, Bristol, Bournemouth and Wales. During lockdown she decided to create an online shop to share her work and With Wild Lines was born. Sophie is quite literally a kitchen table creative - choosing this spot as it has the best light in our home. The antique kitchen table is also a beautiful surface to work upon - with over a century of marks, it invites any new ones - which feel like they're simply adding to its story.

We'd love to ask the creators we work with what it's all about for them, and so Sophie shared her answer too...

So what's it all about...
what is it that makes you feel found?

“Noticing the beauty in things.

I suppose in all my work, I am fascinated by either capturing or creating beauty that evokes a feeling. (I think that is probably true of all my work as a photographer and artist, and conveying a brand identity as a marketer.)

For With Wild Lines, that feeling I am capturing is one of little wonders - mostly borrowed from details found in nature, but often re-imagined or partly dreamt up. The work sometimes feels ethereal or fragile, but always delicate - someone once described it 'like a whisper'.

I often find beauty in the little things, and you can see that in the way I work - honing in on the tiny details, often taking inspiration from intricacies in the natural world - or creating artworks that are miniature in size themselves. The reason I gravitate to the small is because it feels precious - requiring you to really notice and look closer - to me it always feels like sharing a secret or a treasure.

Creativity is all about play, and I think that's very much what it's all about too. Chasing curiosities, experimenting, letting pieces grow naturally. I think for me, creativity isn't just about seeing those wonders - but kind of jumping in too. So I suppose noticing the beauty in things and immersing myself in that.”
