in Bath at Christmas
A journal post from Sophie, lover of the Christmas flavours...
We started off the festive season working with the lovely Bath based Henny & Joe's to create a collection of images of their delicious Masala Chai Infusion and Chocolate syrups. As a lover of chai, I hadn't previously felt any need to venture beyond the perfection of the warm milky brew before but was delighted to find how Masala Chai pairs so well with apple. It's delicious hot or cold, and perfect for Christmas warmed in a hot toddy style. The chai syrup makes it so easy, just add a couple of tablespoons to a cup's worth of apple juice (clear or cloudy) and heat up on the stove.
We've continued to fill our festive season with other independents and we wanted to share a few local companies that have helped quite-a-different-kind-of-Christmas still feel festive.
The Teahouse Emporium's Christmas Coffee has become a tradition for us, a staple in our Christmas for several years now - and the scent of it is so divine with hints of vanilla, chocolate and cinnamon. If you're unfamiliar with this beautiful little shop which resides on New Bond Street, we'd advise a visit. As you step inside you'll be greeted by shelves of teas, teapots, hot chocolates and coffee - the options feel endless.
Another flavoursome treat this Christmas was Bath Culture House's vegan chease, which can be found in Harvest on Walcot Street. The local company creates lots of fabulously fermented products, and their creamy vegan chease is perfect on crackers. They have such a tasty combination of flavours, but this Christmas I chose my tried and tested Turmeric and Black Pepper, as well as tucking in to the Smoked & Chipotle Chilli - now a new favourite.
As the Christmas season comes to an end, we think winter still calls for warming flavours, beverages and bites - especially when we have local businesses creating such delicious treats on our doorstep...
